Hollywood boulevard
Delightful Art Deco styled buildings vie with a replica of Mann’s Chinese Theater to present an image of Hollywood that never was. It’s here that your picture will be taken and you might see some of the cast members, acting as reporters or police, chasing celebrities.
Moreover, it is on the boulevard that the cast members will try to direct you to Echo Lake’s Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! – a live action show featuring stunts from the Indiana Jones films. Halfway up the boulevard, a street breaks off to the right. This is known as Sunset Boulevard, and is home to two of Disney-MGM Studios’ most popular rides: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith. At the junction of Sunset and Hollywood boulevards lies an enormous canopy that is shaped like Mickey’s hat from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
This is a combination store, shady spot, and pin station, where budding traders can ambush the cast and swap badges. At the top of Hollywood Boulevard lies the Central Plaza, which is dominated by the replica of Mann’s Chinese Theater. Here you can experience The Great Movie Ride, a trip through movie history that features every film genre, ranging from musicals to horror films to gangster movies. Huge ride vehicles carrying 60 guests apiece track silently past the largest movie sets ever built for a Disney ride. As always, Disney’s vast experience in the movie industry has led to the creation of some superb sets.
Memorable cinematic moments, such as Gene Kelly singing in the rain and Dorothy going down the Yellow Brick Road on her way to Oz, are re-created with the help of highly realistic Audio-Animatronic figures. Combined with old film clips, special effects, and some fun live action sequences, this is an enjoyable 25-minute ride that ends on a very upbeat and optimistic note. The Great Movie Ride is one of the few attractions where the queuing is almost as good as the ride itself.
