With the shutting down of Disney’s animation unit in January 2004, this area of the park is now less popular, but still has features worth visiting.

A third water park, River Country – the first to be built in Walt Disney World – is now closed. While playing second fiddle to the major theme parks of the resort, the water parks manage to attract huge numbers of visitors, particularly during the hot summer months.
During a “freak” winter storm – or so the legend goes – an entire section of the Disney property was buried under a pile of powdery snow. Disney Imagineers quickly set to work, building Florida’s first ski resort, complete with ski lifts, toboggan runs, and a breathtaking ski slope. However, the snow started to melt quickly, and the Disney people thought all was lost until they spotted an alligator snowboarding himself down the mountainside.

In January 2004, however, the animation department was shut down, and the “working” side of the equation has been almost completely abandoned, although some film and TV production – mostly for the Disney cable channel – is still undertaken here.
Based on a futuristic theme, Tomorrowland has undergone numerous reformations in Disney’s attempts to revitalize the Land. Management continues to routinely close, replace, or add rides in its efforts to find the right mix. The seriously terrifying Extra TERRO Restrial Alien Encounter, for example, was finally judged – after complaints – to be too scary for Disney and is now closed.
On entering Main Street, take a step into Disney’s fantasy of a small-town Victorian America that never was. As you walk down Main Street, you pass beneath the Main Street Station. From here, you can catch the train for a ride around the park. The trains run every ten minutes. Beneath the station are lockers where, for a small fee, you can store valuables and bags.
